Public Observing 5

The Societies Public Observing meetings are open to the general public and members, and are advertised in Eastbourne Council literature.

LOCATION NOTE – The Redoubt will not be available to us after November 2019 due to building works. Once again we have agreed with Eastbourne Council, that our temporary location will be the Western Lawns, where we will decant to the Lansdowne Hotel if the weather is too inclement.

We bring various society telescopes, and specialised cameras and have knowledgeable society members on hand to answer questions and help you til discover the night sky. The event is ability friendly, and is held in the early evening to make it family friendly. However note that the start times change from month to month to accommodate the changing time of the Sun setting. Please wrap up warmly as it can get cold.

The event is free of charge.

NOTE – If there is ice or high winds the event will be cancelled for Health and Safety reasons.

Location1: The Redoubt Napoleonic Fortress, Royal Parade, Eastbourne, East Sussex BN22 7AQ. Enter via the Drawbridge – up the slope from the main road. At the Redoubt, observing is undertaken on the Gun Terrace. We also generally provide a presentation (or presentations), undertaken in Casemate 20, of astronomical  interest. Note that there are steep steps down from the Gun Platform to the parade ground and Casemate 20. For information the Gun Terrace Battlements provide ample shade from the Street Lights on Royal Parade.

Location2: The Western Lawns, King Edwards Parade, Eastbourne – opposite The Lansdowne Hotel.

Observing will be on the Western Lawns with members of the Eastbourne Astronomical Society through various society telescopes, and specialised cameras, who will be able to point out and show you some of the night sky delights. Child and ability friendly.
