Public Observing 5

The Societies Public Observing meetings at The Redoubt are open to the general public and members, and are advertised in Eastbourne Council literature.

LOCATION NOTE – The Redoubt will not be available to us from November due to building works – we are in discussion with Eastbourne Council to see if we can again use the Western Lawns and The Lansdowne Hotel, and what facilities we will have available.

We bring various society telescopes, and specialised cameras, and observing is undertaken on the Gun Terrace. We also generally provide a presentation (or presentations), undertaken in Casemate 20, of astronomical  interest. We align some of these meetings with the BBC Star Gazing Live Events. Please wrap up warmly as it can get cold. For information the Gun Terrace Battlements provide ample shade from the Street Lights on Royal Parade.

This event is ability friendly and is held in the early evening to make it family friendly. However note that the start times change for events due to the changing time of the Sun setting, and that there are steep steps down from the Gun Platform to the parade ground and Casemate 20.

The event is free of charge.

Location: The Redoubt Napoleonic Fortress, Royal Parade, Eastbourne, East Sussex BN22 7AQ

NOTE – Enter via the Drawbridge – up the slope from the main road.

Public Observing @ The Redoubt Fortress
Nov 30 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

LOCATION – The Redoubt Fortress, Royal Parade, Eastbourne BN22 7AQ – Enter via the Rampart from Royal Parade.

Free Public Observing on Eastbourne Seafront.

Observing will be on the gun platform with members of the Eastbourne Astronomical Society through various society telescopes, and specialised cameras, who will be able to point out and show you some of the night sky delights. Child and ability friendly.

An astronomical presentation and talk will be undertaken in Casemate 20. Note that there are steep steps down to the parade ground and Casemate 20.

Members are welcomed to come along and bring their own telescopes, and anyone can bring along a telescope if help is required to make best use of it.

The event is of course reliant on the weather – if it is too cloudy, raining (or snowing) observing will not take place – although we will still present a talk and presentation in Casemate 20.

Wrap up warm if it is a cold evening. Red torches welcomed – white torches and lights not welcomed.
